The Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia invite applications for the Saunders Chair of Catalysis for Energy. This position is part of UVA's investment of $60 million toward climate solutions through the University's Grand Challenge Research Initiatives, which include significant investments in research infrastructure and up to six new faculty positions in the area of catalysis for energy and chemical processes.

The Saunders Chair of Catalysis for Energy is an endowed University tenured Professorship, which is the highest distinction for chaired faculty positions at the University of Virginia. Candidates must have a Ph. D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field, at least five years of experience in an academic institution, and an exemplary record of scholarship in the field of catalysis with a focus on energy related research as well as teaching excellence. Further, it is expected that candidates will provide a leadership role in the field of catalysis for new energy transformations and, working with colleagues at the University of Virginia, build innovative and impactful collaborative research and education programs. In line with UVA’s commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, both broadly across the university and in STEM fields, applicants should highlight in their application evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion to accelerate equity for underrepresented groups.

This new faculty member will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community in the departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Both departments offer a collegial and supportive environment and many opportunities for collaboration within and between the Schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering. This position will be filled at the rank of full professor and, ideally, will be a joint appointment between the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
