Getting to Know the Staff of UVA Chemistry
Compiled and edited for clarity by Hannah Musgrove

What is your title?

Department Administrator

How long have you worked at UVA?

Just over 22 years

What do you enjoy about working in UVA Chemistry?

I love watching the growth and progress that is made both with students and faculty. They work hard in what they do and to see a grad student come in and then several years later defend their dissertation is enjoyable. For the faculty, it is satisfying to see all their hard work pay off with a promotion or a new grant or an award recognizing the commitment they make to their occupation of educating the future and adding to humanity’s knowledge base to make the world better.

What is a piece of advice that you would like to pass on to UVA students?

Find a balance. A balance between work or school and your personal life. It is important now and it will be even more important the older you get as you will need to find happiness in things other than work.

What activities do you enjoy outside of work?

I enjoy fishing, brewing beer, spending time with my wife and kids, and mountain biking. Although I recently crashed on the mountain bike and have been off it for a couple of weeks, a reminder that I am getting older.
