This program seeks to recruit and support postdoctoral scholars who will contribute to advancing STEM diversity, equity and inclusion in their journey to assume a tenure-track faculty position.
OVERVIEW
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia is pleased to announce its participation in the Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The Program is intended to support under-represented scholars in any field and is sponsored by the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. This program provides mentored professional development to train the next generation of scholars for future tenure-track positions at UVA and elsewhere. Postdoctoral Fellows will be fully funded for two years (subject to annual review) and will carry out research, teaching and professional development activities directed toward securing a tenure-track position.
Fellows will join a laboratory in the vibrant UVA Chemistry department, and lead research projects under the mentorship of the faculty principal investigator. Fellows are supported to complete impactful and innovative research, publish papers, present at conferences, mentor junior scholars, and learn to write grant proposals. Interested applicants should reach out to potential faculty mentors to talk with them about this fellowship and other potential research opportunities. In addition to research, scholars will gain mentored experience in teaching at a level appropriate for your career goals; there is flexibility to define this component in a manner that makes sense for you. In addition, Fellows are encouraged to engage and interact with one or more of UVA’s many research centers, in STEM and in other fields.
Rising Scholars Fellows will enter as a College-wide cohort, providing a community structure that is often missing at the postdoctoral stage. These positions are part of an ongoing commitment from the Department of Chemistry and the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in our own program and the STEM fields at large. If interested, you can read more about current and past activities in the Department of Chemistry on our website.
