Rachelle Turiello Awarded DOJ Graduate Research Fellowship
UVa Chemistry Graduate student Rachelle Turiello of the Landers Group has been awarded a Department of Justice (DOJ) Graduate Research Fellowship for the project entitled, Methyl-Prep Disc: A Centrifugal Microfluidic Device for Forensic DNA Methylation Sample Preparation. DOJ fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to only about 20 graduate students nationwide each year. The award supports three years of STEM research with the goal of addressing challenges associated with crime and justice in the United States. Leveraging centrifugal microfluidic technologies associated with the Landers Lab, Rachelle’s research focuses on the development of an automated sample preparation method for human age prediction via epigenetic analysis.
