This semester, Dr. B. Jill Venton was named the Thomas Jefferson Professor of Chemistry. 

Dr. Venton — who first came to the University as an assistant professor of Chemistry in 2005 — was promoted to an associate professor in 2011, and then made a full professor in 2016. She currently serves as the Chair of the Chemistry Department. 

Prior to that, Dr. Venton earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and served as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan from 2003 to 2005. She has made and continues to make significant research contributions to the field, specifically in the areas of electrochemistry, separation, and neurochemistry.
