For the 2022 graduate school Ph.D. application cycle, the UVa Department of Chemistry will be offering fellowships as part of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship Program. These fellowships will be in the Precision Medicine research cluster and will provide, among other benefits, a $6,000 per year stipend enhancement for five years.
Precision medicine deploys cross-disciplinary insights from the fields of chemistry and biology to develop personalized and adaptive patient therapies by quantifying and targeting the molecular drivers and diagnostic markers of disease. These individually tailored regimens can significantly reduce the unintended toxicity of various treatments and greatly improve patient outcomes. Chemistry faculty mentors in this cluster include Huiwang Ai, Mike Hilinski, Ken Hsu, Marcos Pires and Cliff Stains.
Applicants who wish to be considered for an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship and affiliation with a particular research cluster will have the opportunity to upload an additional statement of interest within the PhD program application interface. Please note that expressing interest in a research cluster does not increase an applicant’s competitiveness for admission to a PhD program. Fellowships will be awarded to a select number of admitted doctoral students who exhibit strong potential to benefit from the activities of the research cluster.
